Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, reviewed a report on the Ministry of Environment’s efforts to improve the industrial environment during this year 2024, in support of environmental compatibility efforts, achieving environmental preservation, and enhancing the Egyptian industry’s ability to compete globally for Egyptian products in various markets.

Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of the Environment, confirmed that for this purpose, the Ministry of Environment was able to complete the inspection work on a number of (3,501) facilities in cooperation with a number of different agencies in the country. Environmental sanitation plans were also approved, and the environmental status assessment of a number of (275) facilities was followed up.

The Minister of Environment indicated that the Ministry is implementing environmental projects in clubs and youth centers affiliated with universities and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, in the field of solar energy, such as lighting stadiums using solar cells, heating swimming pool water with solar heaters, and following up and updating the materials displayed on the screens for the project to install a solar energy station on top of the garage. The Ministry of Environment implemented a plan to develop the charcoal production system using environmentally sustainable technology after approval by the Council of Ministers, and completed setting all environmental requirements and controls for the models developed for charcoal production and approved 10 models developed from an environmental standpoint in accordance with the environmental requirements and controls for charcoal production models. The environmental conditions of more than 265 developed models in various governorates have been completed and final operating licenses have been issued using the advance system, in addition to 20 factories for the production of compressed charcoal using the advance system. Within the framework of supporting the Egyptian industry to develop energy and resource efficiency and achieve compliance with environmental laws, the Minister of Environment pointed out the success of the industrial pollution control program in its three stages in financing the number of companies included in the list of projects, with financing of 300 million euros, with a total investment of 550 million euros, and through the third phase of Industrial Pollution Control Program The Egyptian industry was supported by funding about 145 million euros. It provided soft loans to industrial companies wishing to implement environmental projects with a grant of up to 24%. The program also provides grants that are not linked to loans for small and medium industries (SMEs) with a grant of up to 30%. All program amounts were also allocated to finance the number of companies included in the list of projects, which amounted to (23). ) An industrial facility for (34) sub-projects with total investments amounting to 193.47 million euros, in addition to (37) small and medium industries (SME) sub-projects with total investments. 13,864 million euros.

During this year, the program completed environmental projects, including a project to establish a unit for a phenol pollutant station in an industrial sewage treatment plant with a design capacity of 80 m3/hour at Alexandria Mineral Oil Company, a project to establish a PET plastic waste recycling line at Felix B Films Egypt, a project to establish a sewage treatment station. Based on the success of the industrial pollution control program in supporting the Egyptian industry and in continuation of it, the “Green Sustainable Industries” (GSI) program will be launched and run from 2025 to 2030 (five years) with funding amounting to 271 million euros, contributing to investments amounting to 500 million euros. Environmental reviews were also carried out for the projects submitted by various establishments to determine their suitability to the surrounding environment and their lack of negative impact on it, by examining models of environmental impact assessment studies. A number of (7193) projects were studied. These projects varied between (infrastructure projects – petroleum – service – agricultural – tourism – health – industrial – energy), and a strategic environmental assessment was conducted for a number of national projects that included infrastructure projects, including the People of Egypt Walk, Rawd al-Farag sector, the People’s Walk Misr Garden City and the German University, the proposed general plan to expand the city of St. Catherine, energy projects and a uranium products factory in the Dabaa area, in addition to solar energy generation plants, including the establishment and operation of A solar power station inside the Grand Egyptian Museum with a capacity of 1,300 KW, the construction of the new St. Catherine transformer station and the aerial connection starting from M station, a solar energy station in Abu Redis with a capacity of 8 MW, the second phase of the Belayim Petroleum Company, as well as wind stations, including the establishment of a wind energy station. With a capacity of 200 MW, affiliated with Masdar IPH Wind Energy Company, a wind station with a capacity of 500 MW, in addition to 150 MW, affiliated with the Red Sea Company. For wind energy, the Suez Wind Power Plant has a capacity of 550 megawatts, affiliated with the Suez Wind Energy Company. The strategic environmental assessment of the Ras El Hekma project has also begun.

Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, also reviewed a report on the ministry’s efforts in the field of digital transformation and the application of modern technology in various environmental fields during this year 2024, in a way that serves the goals of sustainable development and achieves Egypt’s 2030 vision to achieve a better future for future generations.

The Minister of the Environment emphasized that technological developments contribute significantly to various environmental fields, the forefront of which are environmental monitoring programs, early warning systems, modeling and forecasting applications, and other applications that have tangible effects on the development of decision-making and decision-making processes in the environmental field.

The Egyptian National Authority for Environmental Affairs, which reflects the Ministry’s commitment to protecting environmental resources using the latest technologies to ensure the sustainability of biodiversity in Egypt.

The report indicates that the Ministry of Environment has activated the system of electronic permits and tickets in reserves in cooperation with the “Sharm Green” project, and has prepared the “Eco Monitor” application in cooperation with the Chamber of Diving and Marine Activities with the aim of monitoring some endangered marine creatures. The application provides the opportunity for the diving sector and marine activities practitioners to participate in Efforts to monitor and preserve marine biodiversity, and the National Waste Information and Data Management System was established, which is an integrated system for registering companies working in the field of waste to obtain licenses, approvals and permits for activities of materials and waste, which It is issued electronically by the Waste Management Regulatory Authority (WIMS), in order to facilitate procedures for companies.

Electronic systems have also been created in a number of areas, including enabling companies and factories to submit their periodic reports electronically (the environmental registry of waste), grievances in accordance with the law resulting from the implementation of Law 202 of 2020, extended producer liability (plastic), and the collection, transportation, storage, and export of edible oils.

The Ministry of Environment relies on satellites to monitor fires and identify open burning points during the black cloud season. Which contributes to the speed of reaching and dealing with these points. The Ministry also uses satellites in managing crises and environmental incidents, where pollution points and oil spills are monitored. A comprehensive digital system has also been developed to monitor air quality through the stations of the National Network for Monitoring Air Quality and the National Network for Monitoring Air Quality. Industrial emissions and the national network for monitoring noise levels in most governorates of the Republic. The stations are linked to a central system that receives data in real time, in addition to developing a forecasting and early warning system and issuing periodic reports.

Artificial intelligence is also used to analyze data, anticipate future changes in air quality, predict areas most affected by increased concentrations of pollutants due to the influence of weather factors, and provide proactive recommendations. A comprehensive digital system has also been developed to monitor water quality in the Nile River and lakes, as well as monitor the quality of industrial wastewater quality. In the governorates of the Republic, these stations are linked to a central system that receives data on an ongoing basis, in addition to linking with the early warning system to monitor and control water quality to manage crises and disasters in the waters of the Nile River.
